Tokyo Koenji Election Campaign Street Occupation

This is the kind of thing that never happens in Tokyo, an wildcat street party.

The mc hyping the crowd is ECD, the godfather of underground hiphop in japan. He later appears on my record Dirty Bomb. This is how we met.

Officially it is an election rally for a local mayoral race. This particular candidate runs a 2nd-hand store that is a hub of artist and activist peeps, his election platform included ecology & anarchism.

Each candidate is entitled to a certain amount of hours of blasting election propaganda from a sound truck. The truck must be a certain exact size, make, model according to the law, but the ordinance doesn't specify a maximum size of the sound equipment on the truck, thus the loophole.

Notice that I'm wearing an armband, it's issued by the City Hall of Tokyo that precisely authorizes a technician to blast sound from a truck. At 0:40 seconds you can see the another candidates truck passing by, with the normal volume of speakers. The police could do nothing to stop us.
