Wow! What an experience! Me & a friend paddled up from Twickenham, through Teddington Lock & eventually found David & his entourage just past Kingston. The roar from the people gathered all along Kingston riverside was amazing! And, all along the river between Kingston & Teddington Lock there were pockets of onlookers all of whom were very vocal in cheering David on. We stayed with him until the very end where he got out just as it was getting dark & waved at the masses of cheering people! Again, the sound of the crowd was brilliant! Many times along the way David stopped very briefly to wave to the crowds cheering him on. During my paddle with David I chatted with a few of his support team & also the RNLI rib. In fact it was they who approached me who were rather impressed with my paddling abilities whilst holding an umbrella! It pee'd down for a bit! It was amazing to see David swimming for so long in the river...a river that I know very well! He did 21 miles today & tomorrow is his last day. He'll be starting at around 9am at Teddington Lock to catch the tide as it goes out & will be finishing at Westminster Bridge at 6pm on the dot! I don't think I will be there as it is a bit of a faff to get there by boat unless you have a tide to bring you back. Plus, I am quite tired now from two days paddling in a row! If I can't see him finish from my boat I won't go at all! Sunday September 11th 2011.
