BRAILLE GRAFFITI

A project for the blind. All braille found in public is of the practical nature, directing them this way and that. Further, obviously, without vision, blind people miss out on the beauty that graffiti can present in our culture, both aesthetically but also conceptually.

This is an attempt to create a unique experience for the blind people who happen to come across these bits of graffiti designed for them.

  • interesting idea, poor execution. Why was the braille put in places that blind people don't have normal interaction with? seriously? on the side of a truck? the handrails /might/ work but it's highly unlikely. and what's with the sticker? is it because blind people will rarely if ever come across these that you need to point it out to people who can see for it to mean anything to anyone? Why weren't these added next to places that already have braille? then they might actually read it.

  • Valid concerns, considered prior to exec (&, Ive answered to this criticism in these comments b4). Art is often in unexpected places. This dovetails with the stickers: when 99% of humans see a blind person next to Braille Graffiti they will empower the blind to read the message & share. The labels are meant to bring people together, not just 4 labeling. We seeing people think of composition in a different way. I hope my thoughts here express at least an attempt @ thoughtfulness. -swi

  • soup cans with braille. i like it.

  • Why do they label it?!?!?!

If your blind you can't read the label and if you can see you can't read the Braille so the labels a bit pointless.

  • the art is for the blind. the labels make it more likely that the blind will "see" the art." someone who can see might not understand that. but actually, a blind person suggested it.

  • The problem with braille is that there is only one "font." There is no such thing as different font styles or sizes in braille. All you people complaining that it's just writing don't understand that if the configuration of dots were changed to make it more "artistic" it would make it unreadable and thus no longer braille.

  • thats a pretty good idea but how are they gonna know its there? people dont just randomly rub there hands on walls (or do they?0

  • @11freedomfighter11 at 1:00 and 1:38, it says "Tiny bubbles that randomly rose from the paper in this arrangement." Very beautiful to me. I didn't try to read any of the others eye strain is bad for your vision. :)

  • "hey honey feel this....its braille graffiti =O....oh those blind gangsters and their braille graffiti!"

  • Nice project, amazing printer:-)) How did you gain access to it? And is this grade 2 braille? I found it difficult to read. Perhaps you can add the 5 phrases to the infobox of the video.
