@archer1949 Ouch, okay, I get you and agree but there's no call to lash out at the teens.
-
@Khultan If you read the original comics today, they still hold up. This? Not so much.
-
@Khultan But that's the thing: The comic was NOT targeted for the hip, mod Youth readership. It was a early sixties Cold War adventure tale with a unique protagonist. If they would have gone for a more early Sean Connery "From Russia With Love" vibe, it would have appealed to a broader audience, not just flaky teenybopper trendsters who were already moving on to psychedelia and Flower Power by the time this travesty was released.
Is it any wonder the old studio system collapsed?

@archer1949 As the Brits would say: 'Ah, bullocks!'

@archer1949 Well, you know, those crass, old school movie studio guys were always stepping into uncertainty vying for the atterntion of youth, I mean, youth had rock'n'roll as a platform to craft their own form of expression and the studios tried to compete with that and fails. Who do you think this Modesty Blaise in cimena form was targeted at?
-
@Khultan The comic was played fairly straight. Very reminiscent of early James Bond. The original screenplay for this movie was written by Modesty's creator, but was taken away from him by Losey and the producers and camped up until nothing remained. The movie deservedly flopped. It was the last feeble gasp of the mid sixties camp pop art fad.
I guarantee that the movie would have done bettter if they played it straight and cast an actress who could speak English.

That movie seems to be all wrong! Willie is blonde and Modesty is not. AND THEY ARE NOT A COUPLE! They must have confused Modesty with Maude Tiller or something.
there already is a modesty blaise "remake": it's called my name is modesty: a modesty adventure (2004)... it was directed by scott spiegel and - guess what - produced by tarantino... but it's shit.
