Cowboy Song-Lyrics:

I am just a cowboy, lonesome on the trail
A starry night, a campfire light
The coyote call, and the howling winds wail
So I ride out, to the old sundown

I am just a cowboy, lonesome on the trail
Lord, I'm just thinking 'bout a certain female
The nights we spent together, riding on the range
Looking back it seems so strange

Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinnin' till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Ridin' in the rodeo

I was took in Texas, I did not know her name
Lord, all these southern girls they seem the same
Down below the border, in a town in Mexico
I got my job busting broncs for the rodeo

Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Runnin' free with the buffalo
Here I go

Roll me over, and I'll turn around
And I'll move my fingers, up and down
Up and down

It's okay amigo, just let me go
Ridin' in the rodeo

Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinnin' till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Ridin' in the rodeo
Roll me over and set me free
The cowboy's life is the life for me

  • @jmmygumbo1002 It seems classic rock radio thinks Jailbreak was the only album Lizzy ever recorded...

  • It annoys me that classic rock radio really only plays "The Boys are Back In Town" when I can name so many other songs like Cowboy Song that equal it as great jammin tune.

  • First time I heard Jailbreak album it blew ma heed aff.....

  • the best thin lizzy tune by far it should be played more often especially on these so called classic rock stations for this is truly a classic

  • Gotta admit I was not familiar with much of Thin Lizzy's music (even though I saw them as a warmup band to Queen back in 1977). Sitting in a coffee shop I caught the Cowboy Song and recognized the guitar and vocalist as distinctly Thin Lizzy. Looked up some lyrics and found this web site. It's a great tune -- agree, it ought to be played more often!

  • This one would rule on modern COUNTY radio!

  • Phil is one of the baddest motherfuckers ever and this may be one of the baddest motherfuckers they ever recorded. You know what I mean if you know what I mean.

  • @jmmygumbo1002

Well whenever a classic rock radio station plays Thin Lizzy, it's all good.

  • The first part of this song with just Phil Lynott talking over that guitar and harmonica is pure heaven. The rest of the song is awesome too. So let's ride out to the old sundown.....

  • To my cowgirl Sherry, the certain female that I am thinking about

  • Nobody makes rock music this good nowadays.

  • @jmmygumbo1002 funny thing about that is, working at walgreens i hear this along with boys are back in town and jailbreak on a pretty frequent basis
