@andrewkenworthy agree with everything you said. no other bands get close to the smiths for me, even the beatles. i've always felt it's a pity they only lasted 5 years, the smiths back catalogue isn't big enough :-( but at least nearly every song was brilliant, with the exception of a few.

I was there! I remember walking through Derby Market Place and was asked if I wanted some tickets for this show, as there were still plenty left. Which is nowadays seems amazing as the tickets were free anyway, but this was before the Smiths were well known. I also remember people were given flowers on the way in, obviously for the benefit of the TV cameras and threw them on cue for this charming man, one of the stems hit morrisey in the eye and they had to do the song again!

@andrewkenworthy Morrissey and Johnny Marr were awesome, John and Paul or the beatles couldn't replicate em, I have been Morrissey and the Smiths since 84, I still dress like Morrissey when he was in The Smiths and and still have that same haircut! LONG LIVE MORRISSEY AND THE SMITHS!!!

im going to be brave and say it,,there have been great bands,,beatles pink floyd led zeppelin,,but the smiths for me is the greatest band ever without all the bullshit trimmings that goes with the rock and roll life,,best guitar lines, best lyrics..not even john lennon or paul mcartney wrote em quiet like mozz could.pity it only lasted under five years,nearly every tune a gem.
