The incomparable Gracie Allen and Eleanor Powell in this show-stopping number from the hit 1939 MGM musical of the same name. The song captures the Magic and Romance of Hawaii's Golden Age. When getting there was truly half the fun. Alas, this song and musical have not fared well, and have been all-but-forgotten, except for the truest Kama'aina. Fortunately, the song and musical have receive a reprieve and rebirth lately after being used in such wonderful documentaries as "Waikiki-In the Wake of Dreams." Enjoy! Aloha & Mahalo! (& "Goodnight Gracie!)

  • I never saw Gracie in a film so young. No wonder George was always content and smiling. He had something to smile about!!! Carnation had contented cows and George was a contented hubby. Gracie so beautiful!!!!

  • @TheWally243 The entire movie on DVD is available from Warner Bros. Archive Collection. Check it out at warnerarchive d.o.t. com

  • @msm2you You should check out Gracie's dancing in even higher heels in the 1937 movie, "A Damsel In Distress".....co-starring and dancing with Fred Astaire and Gearoge Burns.

  • Gracie was actually an excellent dancer, since she had a dancing act many years ago in vaudeville before she met George Burns. She could also sing beautifully, but we only rarely get to hear her sing on radio, TV or on film. This scene is a real treat.

  • Eleanor Powell was the greatest tap dancer ever in the movies. Gracie got her start in vaudeville so I can see why she is so great at dancing. Thanks for posting, you made my day! Janice M

  • I'd love to watch this whole movie I've searched around but no can find any ideas

  • Ouch! I've just noticed that Miss Gracie was tapping in a *two* inch heel versus Miss Eleanor's dance shoe with cuban heel ( 1 and half). I know it is due the high difference but tapping in a two inch heel with no strap must not be easy.

  • Gracie Allen was just known as a comedian, but in fact - as seen here - she was a completely capable singer and dancer as well.

"Honolulu" was the last film that George Burns and Gracie Allen made together, but they only appear with each other near the very end. Of course they did other movies separately, as well as their long-running TV show in the '50s.

  • long live Gracie and get comment by steffidude
