I had an 87 S10 blazer. I had a hitch on it with just a tow ball/draw bar inserted. I got hit about 15mph from the rear in a mid-intersection pile up. The F150 behind me had someone hit him, and he slammed into me.. His bumper was pushed in pretty good but no damage to my s10. You couldnt even tell it was hit except for where the dirt got knocked off haha. I keep my pintle hitch on my other truck...Sticks about a foot out, and with the backing plate it helps too. But this is just genius!

Where are you getting these statistics from? I agree that if you were to back into a wall at 30mph you'd have some whiplash problems. The only problem? Most cars that hit trucks with trailer hitch balls or "toys" get their radiator, bumper, and some other parts totally destroyed. I have seen cars hit trucks...and the trucks, if equipped with a trailer hitch will punch right through the front of the car...stopping it. This is a good idea, but it solves a problem that doesn't really exist.

@TFSJake A vehicle equipped with a receiver hitch will increase your risk of whiplash by 22% - from the mechanical engineering firm Chalmers. 5 mph - 8 mph is the optimal speed for whiplash and women and children are two times more likely to suffer from whiplash (their necks are not as strong) - San Diego Spine and Research Clinic - Dr. Arthur Croft. The problem is passenger cars hit the receiver hitch (or ball mount) and that transfers all the crash energy directly to the occupants.

a brake light hitch receiver could avoid you getting rear ended at all
that's even better
why didn't you think of putting a brake light on it !!!

@shodanxx 48% of the people that hit you in the rear are not slowing down. You could hang a neon sign back there and they'd still hit you. The only drivers that see the light are the ones that are paying attention - but you don't get hit in the rear by the ones paying attention. That's why additional lighting does not work - it's a waste of money.

no offense, but what you are really saying is fill the receiver hitch with your toy instead of the others? I do agree...quite an instructional vid on rear impact damage.

@kb3310 Any fixed or static receiver hitch product will increase the chances of whiplash by 22%. Since our products absorb crash energy they reduce the potential for whiplash.
