The pope in Spain

Spain is on the Pope's shit list because they passed laws granting gay people the right to same sex marriage. What they see as "aggressive secularism" is the erosion of their revenue stream. That's it - the Church is like any big business that tries to lobby government to prevent legislation that will harm it's cash flow.

Sometimes I wake up and I'm angry, and I don't know why, and then I remember it's because the pope exists.

You're right. When people think of the Inquisition, they think of Spain. It was particularly brutal, but really just phase 2 of the insanity. We're sort of in phase 4 right now.

Nobody expects Monty Python one liners!
Over and over again.
The U.S. is mostly good example, but only because Catholics never had power here. Even then, you have missionaries destroying Native American culture.

@AceOfSevens Yeah true. Supposedly Catholics treated slaves much better because they believed black people had souls, versus the Protestants who literally thought black people had no souls.
.. I mean, I don't think black people have souls but I don't think white people or any type of people have souls so it's different haha

Uergossen, were you raised as a catholic? I was and as Jimmy Buffet says "I couldn't wait to escape from that catholic confinement."

@mcrd2001 nope wasn't raised catholic. I was raised mildly Mennonite. Very mildly, we didn't go to church except on religious holidays. I got bible stories read to me every sunday, sang grace and was sometimes told to "be a good christian" but that's about it.
