It's rough, I know.

But it's the only good-quality audio of Pilot of which I'm aware. The voices are those of Dave and Ian Thomas and Rick Moranis, because this is from SCTV.

Enjoy!

One by one they disappeared
The minds of science, the nation's leaders
To meet again at destination
Sweating in their seats, anticipation

On the salt flats of Nevada
All those who mattered waited for the word
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh pilot
This paradise is lost forever
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh Pilot
We place our trust in the flyer
To deliver us from the fire
We have made

Thru the porthole panic stricken
Humanity had been forsaken
The door secured, the cry was distant
But the scratching fingers grew persistent

On the salt flats of Nevada
All those who mattered waited for the word
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh pilot
This paradise is lost forever
Oh oh Pilot, woah oh Pilot
We place our trust in the flyer
To deliver us from the fire
We have made

Pilot, woah oh pilot
We place our trust in the flyer
To deliver us from the fire
We have made

  • Sorry to whomever made the interesting comment on this being a possible reference to Chuck Yeager and the X project; I've deleted your comment accidentally.

I think it's very possible that this could be about Yeager, though I'd always thought that it was about Paul Tibbets (pilot of the Enola Gay) dropping the bomb on Japan in WWII. As it turns out, neither of us are correct... Mr. Thomas said on his website that this is about big business.

Ah well. And you're right about the hoser sound too.

  • It's pretty fitting that Ian would play on SCTV considering his brother... Dave Thomas... was one of the stars of the show!

  • Pilot was one of the finest Canadian hits

by a way underated singer/songwriter. Two thumbs up !!!

  • I want to move to Canada, the country to the south has a big problem with putting out quality music these days. This guy is worth digging into, I have his first 2 albums from 1973 and they are great, but they sound completely different. This sounds cool and very 1978.

  • I remember seeing this on SCTV when it aired ... awesome ... No lip syncing on that show .. all the bands were live ... I also remember seeing The Tubes on an episode of Scuttlebutt Lodge featuring John Candy's character Gil Fisher ... lol

great show and great memories ... I got too see Ian Thomas shortly after his performance on SCTV ... His band was fantastic and Ian Thomas was brilliant ... they came out after their first set dressed up like 'hosers' ... lol

  • I don't think I've heard this song in 30 years. Love it!
