Aside from the fact that the governing body tailored the trial qualifications so that very few fighters outside of the Lopez trio would qualify, and the fact that Mark's fight was a put-up job and his sister's given to her despite her awful performance, you're right. There is no "selection process."

Last I checked you have to qualify and beat everybody else to get on the team. Am I wrong? I don't recall there being a selection process.

I've seen them compete in person. I wasn't impressed at all. I've seen better and their lack of gold is proof. The American team could've picked far better to represent them.
