if there ever was a more creative force in the 80's Portland Contemporary Jazz world, a vote could be had for the Hobbs-Bard Big Bangg.
Fusion-esque in their leanings, but wrapped in a melodic, improvisers heart, this was a talented group of players and composers fronted by the drums/compositions of Gary Hobbs(Stan Kenton,Tom Grant) and the reeds/compositions of Michael Bard (Stan Kenton,Matrix, Simon & Bard).
the other personnel on this video were:
Jeff Uusitalo on trombone
Glenn Holstrom on keyboards
Jay "Bird" Koder on guitar
Terry Hill on electric bass
this tune was written by Jay Koder, but the title escapes me. I will find out from Jay what it is.
But it's still a nice tune :)
LOL this is really cool. Thanks Carlton! I will link this to the Big Bangg Band Facebook page!

Thanks for sharing. I remember seeing these guys a lot at The Brasserie in downtown Portland in the 80's.
