shakuhachi - masayuki koga/ Some people are talking about circular breathing. Koga's breathing for shakuhachi is"Open system" method. For Koga, circular breathing is only "side effect" from the process(practice) of it, not the goal. You can see how he does, visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJUUxTQRi_8&feature=related
You can do circular breathing with Closed-System, then the sound becomes rather mechanical, not so much musical.
尺八の循環奏法は目的ではなくて、"オープン方式"の呼吸をすれば その付随スキルとして自然にできるものです。参考までに:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJUUxTQRi_8&feature=related

  • Peace Music.....!!!

  • @deathmetalmaster ;p I 've got my 2.6 jinashi , JOn Kypros signature and for me is absolute essence of the bambbo!

  • @bamboosa absolutely no reason to sweat blood, 'sissorfite studio' in e-bay, pretty good flutes, root end, madake usw., from 30$ . I have 5 of his, all play well in al least 2 octaves....

  • @colganmj a real root end bamboo makes all the difference in terms of the tone the shakuhachi presents. I have a 2.4 shakuhachi made by jon kypros. its absolutely wonderful for honkyoku. you dont need to spend a TON of money, however 200-400 dollars is an adequate amount of money to spend on a hocciku flute. if you want a concert piece with a laquered bore, its probablyg going to cost an arm and a leg. My flute is definitely not concert worthy, but it sounds great live and recorded :D

  • @colganmj - Of course I have checked out the Yuu website. That's what computers are for. If you want to buy a Yuu flute for me, that is your choice. 37 million Americans go to bed hungry and malnourished. I am 5'9" (male) and weigh 113 lbs, not to be fashionable.

  • @bamboosa Have you looked into a Shakuhachi Yuu? They're about 170. I just got one and like it very much. I have never played a real madake flute so I cannot compare to an expensive one.

  • One of Mr. Koga's students lives a few blocks from me. He is rich and has many fine shakuhachi. He can play shakuhachi very well. I am poor. I made a shakuhachi that is very difficult to play. Ron, the rich guy, cannot play my shakuhachi, though he has tried. I sweat blood for one good note.
