I attended a National Science Foundation program in math and computers for HS juniors at IIT in the 70s. We took trips to Argonne National Lab, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Ravinia Festival. My IIT experience was responsible for my leaving NYC for college over the next four years.

A great K-12 education is important! Bring back music and art to the public schools! Reduce class size! Treat teachers well!

Where will Chicago get the money to hire the extra teachers and purchase the proper equipment needed to be on par with private schools ? If not mistaken over 20% of CPS teachers send their kids to private schools. Private school teachers also earn less money. Will CPS teachers be willing to take a pay cut to obtain all the items their in need of ?

My kids went from a cps to a catholic school because the cps said they had no money for gifted kids. Then realizing it is going to cost 80 thousand dollars to send 2 kids to catholic high school. we left to another county to send our kids to school. the difference between cps and the catholic school was incredible.The cps kids are so far behind. and almost as bad from moving from the catholic school to the suburban school. I hate to say it but I am sure money is not the only problem in CPS.

The chicago police and fire dept fucked up with a no strike clause in their contracts. Why the fuck do you have a union and have no strike clause? That is the only way you can get shit done. If I was the mayor I would never give the cpd or fire dept a new contract.

here is the truth. Chicago is corrupt and mis managed. Chicago is operating over budget by at least a billion dollars a year. Chicago cut people and programs from all departments not just cps. I left the city and the county because of the cps. I did not care who was to blame.Watch waiting for Superman.I know some cps teachers and feel for them but they are going to an empty well for water. No one gives a shit about the budget unlesss it effects their pocket books
