Schönster Herr Jesu is a familiar hymn, also known in English as "Fairest Lord Jesus", or "Beautiful Savior".

The tune is known as "Crusader's Hymn", a Silesian folk tune from Schlesische Volkslieder from 1842.

This recording is just me sitting down and playing a unrehearsed tune on my recently restored Karn reed organ, made in Woodstock, Ontario, in 1905. For more information on the restoration, visit: http://www.rodneyjantzi.com/karn/

  • The first time I ever sang a solo in church it was Beautiful Saviour. This video reminds me of that time AND as a young kid visiting with my Grandmother's cousin on a farm and hearing her play this tune on the reed organ she had in her living room.

  • As an old Russian lady once said about my daughter, "she has an old soul." I now say that about you Rodney. You have an old soul. Your musicianship is superb and spiritual. Thanks. Dwight Ragle

  • Very nice! One of my favorite hymns of all time. Lovely! :)
