  • Hi Allan.

Kiwi living in Perth here, planning on starting on a zip in about 6 months. Thanks for uploading your videos, very encouraging to see someone elses project go from start to finish.

Can I request a video from inside the boat, up and planing? There are none of riding in a zip on youtube.

Cheers, good work - beautiful finishing work on the boat.

  • Gday, thanks for the positive words. Next time I got out I'll try and get a video of the boat planing. Last weekend I fitted a couple of hydrofoils to the outboard anti-cavitation plate and it changed the boat (for the better). It plans at very low revs and makes the boat ride very flat at slow speeds (3-5 knots). Will get some more vids on as soon as I can. Cheers, Allan

  • lovely boat

  • Not sure about top speed, would seem to be about 25 - 30 knots?

  • great job!!!! love the boat!!!! i have a late 40´s speed boat i have restored (it was my granfather´s), i did upload a vid about it... now i was thinking about building a zip myself and after seeing your vids for sure i will... congrats!!!!

btw, how fast does it goes with the 30?

  • Thats really nice, thanks for sharing the video

Yes, Glen-L Zip plans is what I used

  • did you get the plans from glen-l?

  • I have a painted hull so am probably not the perfect person to advise on planking the hull. However, I made a longboard using a piece of flat 19mm ply, about 1m long by 150mm wide. I attached sand paper to this and just went for it. Sanding with a long board, although physically tough, ensures a fair surface. I suggest you join the Glen-L forum and post your question there as there are a lot of guys in North America who would be able to give you better advice on this.

Cheers, cant wait to see that.

I'm anxious about fairing the hull before planking; of everything I have researched so far, it's the one thing I'm unsure if I can do properly.

Any advice that you wish you had been given before fairing, or that you figured out during / after would be great?
