Typically when we harvest honey here at Sunset Magazine HQ, we strip the wax comb and honey from the frames and strain the honey through cheesecloth into a bowl. This time we thought we would be a little more daring and use a honey extractor (available for use though our local bee guild). The honey extractor uses centrifugal force to fling the honey out of the comb. Using this system allowed us to keep most of the comb intact so we would be able to put the frames back in the hive and the bees would not have to rebuild all of the comb before filling it with new brood or honey.

after watching these ladies using this extruder I think i'll get one with a motor, might be easier, cause i think you are supposed to spin for like ten minutes to get all of it out.Funny Video though-OK girls -now make some more videos please.

It was a cold day and we had one frame partially crystallized (we did not intend on eating this honey-it had been treated with Apiguard and Formic Acid) so we were cranking as hard as we thought we needed to get the honey to spin out. It worked!

It looks like they have a lot of fun at Sunset Magazine. The girl at the beginning of the video is wearing a beautiful ring if you look closely enough!
