My first ride around and into the town of Statesville on my Trek 2.3.
Total mileage for the ride was 48.2 miles, it covered both Iredell and Alexander Counties. and took 3 hours and 13minutes (including both water breaks)

I started at my house near West Iredell High School and rode the following route:

Old Mountain Road to old 90
90 to "Monticello School Road"???
Monticello School road to Chipley Ford Rd
(brief stop at Ft Dobbs on Ft Dobbs road)
Chipley Ford Rd to Nicon
Nixon Rd to Victoria
Victoria to West Debbie (and then to 21 via some other Rd)
21 to Ft Dobbs Rd
Ft Dobbs to Museum Road
Museum Rd to Radio Rd
Radio to Hartness
Hartness to Race (brief stop at Mac Anderson Park)
Race to Front Street
Front Street to some unknown street
Unknown to Island Ford
Island Ford to Old Mountain
Old Mountain to Massey Deal.

The ride was great until the 37 mile point (Mac Anderson Park) The temperature was 90+ when I left the house, but it really didn't start bothering me until I stopped for my first real break. I had been keeping very well hydrated, and at the park I took the opportunity to refill my water bottles and take in some of the cool fountain water. I also ate half of a very melted PowerBar, and drank a Vitamin Water that I had been carrying in my back jersey pocket. They didn't mix very well, and I ended up feeling kind of queasy.
Compound my queasiness and my new found appreciation of exactly how hot it really was outside, and I was faced with quite an uncomfortable ride back to the house.

Once I got on Island Ford Rd, I started felling better, and really only started feeling rough again right around the very end of the ride. (I had planned on doing a little segment to wrap up the ride once I got home... but by the time I actually got back to my house, all I could think about was collapsing on the floor and trying no to hurl.

Good times...

Can't wait to have a similar adventure next week.

(The Trek really is a fantastic bike... I highly recommend it)

  • Nice roads! I have that exact same bike and it looks and performs great (but what happened to your white bar tape & saddle? I find the stock saddle to be just fine). Did you wear sunscreen? Forgetting that can make you feel real sick on real hot rides. You could definitely go faster with some technique (guess this was an early ride?)

  • you drove by my highschool

  • I just got mine & its awsome!! pretty fast bike, everything is awsome.. just the seat, its not that great..

  • Great video! I pick up my 2.3 in a week, how do you like the bike? pros / cons?
