  • I cracked up at the part about neglected organs having celeste all over the place. I know one in particular that was like that until recently! Wonderfully-made documentary, better quality than Discovery Channel!

  • Now that's an artisan at work. Great to see that some things still require that they're made by hand instead of being belched out of a machine.

  • belched out ? the way you but it made me laugh but really each organ is many parts and has its own character so it has to be tuned by hand to make the small adjustments, a fart sound would be more reasonable to say since certain pipes like a diaphone style make more of a fart or bassy flapping sound depending on the size.

  • I hope they have improved their building. All that I've heard in my town are really crappy! One in particular has a 2" principal that screams over everything else! This company really is the "C-" of the organ world........unfortunately.

  • If tuned using rigorous mathematics, the tops of the pipes will form a straight line rather than a curve. I noticed this guy grins a lot and talks while he can't be heard over the organ. I suppose he knows what he's doing, but I suspect a great deal of his knowledge is learned by experience or as an apprentice. Then again, a swollen head is something a true expert certainly has a right to have if he deserves it. I give him a nod of approval, but I want a warranty on his work in a sacellum.

  • I can tell this guy enjoys his work!

  • This is fun to watch, sitting in the voicing-room at Taylor and Boody, with the voicing machine behind me, working on the 1-3/5' from the Cornet for our next organ (Off the clock!)...

  • Wow! He sure knows what his doing!

  • @MrGaryWaller Thank you for this clear explanation.

  • @oklahoma47 Chiff is the sound on the initial attack of the speech that sounds like "ch". More chiff gives the pipe a percussive character.

  • I have a really basic question which I'm having difficulty getting answered...can you explain to me what "chiff" is, and specifically what it means to have more or less chiff?

  • Cool
