X10 or X10 Military?
Its a question we are seeing a lot! There really are minimal differences between the X10 and its military counterpart apart from the obvious styling - the X10M sports an all black facial. The military version also features a red backlight and compass in degrees of mils units
A lesser know difference is that the GPS funtion of the X10M can be set to use the MGRS system (Millitary Grid Reference System):
The MGRS system was designed to simplify the specification of position and passing of coordinates for soldiers and marines. The MGRS system allows users to abbreviate the 13-digit UTM coordinate, making it easier to use.
We have not found any immediate advantage here - unless of course you are calling the US army out to rescue you, they may find you a little faster!

After one year of daily usage, my strap cracked and broke into pieces, a result of lousy "elastomer" strap. Sent back to Suunto and was initially charged 250EUR, insane. I rejected, saying that changing the strap and wristop casing wouldn't cost a penny. Suunto then gave me a second price quote of 50EUR including nextday delivery DHL. Fair enough. suunto gave me a new black-steel plastic strap(only uncoloured-steel in market), surprisingly changed casing, new plastic non-rubberised bezel, yahoo.

@butcheredman not so cool when compared to Garmin Forerunner 305 gps functions, it is way better. But in term of daily watch function, design and the inverted LCD, suunto watches are coolerrrrr.

I have this watch. 6 hr battery life on 1sec refresh to satellite really sucks. I built a homemade USB battery charging pack for it. Worked well in Afghanistan with solar panel recharge.

Yeah, 6 hours usable GPS. But can you use GPS while charging the watch? If can, how do you do it?

@got2hurt if you want the stylish design, temperature, barometer, compass and use it as daily watch, Suunto X10 is perfect. For serious GPS, buy Garmin Forerunner series such as Forerunner 305 which has far superb software and firmware update as meant for GPS, I would rate FR305 5 stars for its GPS, X10 two stars, but 305 is strictly not a daily worn watch because it is very very bulky. Both should be incorporated into one ultimate design, and I think the responsibility is on Suunto, not Garmin.

3 things. 1st, great accuracy for the GPS. 2nd, takes up less room space. 3rd the turn around time for repair was great. How will that play out on the second repair. We will see. But I recommend this to anybody who wants to come home.

Do NOT buy this watch if you plan on doing anything rigorous such as outdoor sports. Probably the most fragile construction I've encountered.

The band is replaceable and attached to the watch with two small screws and held in place by the top plastic retaining ring. This ring is only attached by two very small plastic catches on either side and the whole ring appears to be made out of the cheapest, non-durable plastic known to man. I'm going back to G-Shocks...

@otivaeey i disagree, i've never owned the x10 however i do have a 305. the main reason that i purchased it was to be able to enter in coordinates whether it be in lat-long or mgrs and have it track to the point, but the 305 does not have that capability. the 305 also has a short battery life and does not have all the extra features the x10 has (temp. baro, ect.) and is not water resistant past 3 feet.
