The Truth About Alex [Canada,1986] Directed by Paul Shapiro.
Gay HS Footballer Outed to Team & Best Friend. Staring Peter Spence as Alex. Scott Baio as Brad. Pioneering, insightful, touching, unsparingly honest. The Truth About Alex won a cable-TV Ace Award. Adapted from Anne Snyder & Louis Pelletier 1981 novel, 'Counter Play'. This is the Canadian version. Canadian version c 58 min. US only 48 min. "This film has never been officially released on either VHS, CD or DVD, & not likely to ever be. This digital copy is a newly revitalized print, taken from a recently discovered 5th-or-6th generation VHS capture of the film as aired by Global Television in 1986. The other intact available print, to the best of my knowledge is "Close-captioned" similar generation print from US broadcast, 1987." Cinetemagay. Studios: HBO Films/Fireworks Films/Scholastic Productions/Shapiro Productions/CanWest Global Media Inc. Insight Productions. Thank you.

  • @canadaguy666 I think some of our bravest athletes are male cheerleaders.

  • @SynneDennis lol. hockey-centric is correct. but i think more schools (in my district, at least) had football teams than hockey teams. it's just nice to think a true friend could exists in such a hetero context. i could NEVER have done what Alex did, even though i played v-ball, which a lot of people perceive as gay-ish.

  • @canadaguy666 Lol it just seemed so hockey-centric that football was out of the question.

  • @SynneDennis yeah, we also have buldings

  • I remember hearing about this in the 80's and I even bought the book. However, we didn't have HBO so I never got to see it. I always liked shows/movies with controversial topics and this was definitely one in the 80's. What I always hated about the book, though, is that Alex is kind of "stereotypical"; that is, they made him "shy and artistic". I think it would have been more interesting if Brad had been the gay guy; that is, partying hard and all over the girls.

  • They play football in Canada?

  • They are super cute. *_* I hope this isn't a sad movie. Too many of those out there...

  • This isn't a sad ending is it. Because all these gay movies with sad endings is just plain depressing.

  • ALEX DIDN'T DO ANY THING!!! IT WAS THAT FUCKING BASTARD!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • poor alex :c
