Easy Rockin', Easy-to-love...

R. Dean Taylor certainly had the goods; songwriter, producer, singer. Here's a recording that sounds like Autumn and feels like a sweet Sunday drive in the country. A recording that has that easy, take-it-slow feeling that characterized many of the recordings of the 70's singer-songwriter era. In fact, R. Dean could easily have been Motown's ace-in-the-hole in that arena; his sound and style found on the "I Think, Therefore I Am" album oftens reminds me of James Taylor.

R. Dean Taylor played quite a large role in the Motown story- behind the scenes on many of the hits of the company's amazing sixties era; start reading those songwriting label credits and you'll see what I mean. He also had a couple of record releases that really deserved a larger share of chart action than they received ("There's A Ghost In My House" and "Gotta See Jane.") There was always something uniquely Dean in whatever he recorded and here is a great example.

There are songs that can instantly recall the same reaction even after repeated listening- I can't help but always recall good memories of fun times when I hear this R. Dean Taylor classic.

Note the backing vocals- I certainly didn't know it, but I believe I read once before that they were provided by the always-amazing Andantes, thus the reason for their appearance here.

  • Wow haven't heard this in YEARS. Never knew who it was by. I have another one of his, Indiana Wants Me, and never realized he did this too.

  • @boogleben9 Hello! I'm glad you were able to re-discover this song here! Check out R. Dean Taylor's song, "Don't Fool Around" as well. I've got it posted here- it's very interesting to heard R. Dean being backed with a more classic Motown Sound. I hope you'll enjoy it!

  • i knew "indiana wants me" had a bit of a melancholy bubblegum characteristic going on, but had no idea he went all out bubblegum! love this track!

  • @icallmybabystp I think it's a fantastic song. It sound right in line with what was being played on the radio in the early part of the the seventies. Thanks for commenting!

  • Check out 'There's a ghost in my house'

  • @funkmasterjee I LOVE that song!!!! I kept promising that I would do something for that song too, but never got to it (at least not yet! lol)

"There's A Ghost In My House" - I don't know why that didn't catch on here in the states. Such a killer groove, from the first beat of the bass drum, that racetrack tempo never lets up.

  • R. Dean Taylor plays a large part of Motown's history, and I'm very happy that it seems more people are getting to hear this fantastic artist. He's mainly known for "Indiana Wants Me" but he really has so many more great songs.

Thanks for the comments on the videos! I wanted to try to sometimes have the pics match the storyline or mood of the songs (thank you for noticing that!) :-)

  • Wow! Love his voice. Never heard of him before. About to check out his other stuff. Thanks for uploading. Your videos are great btw - pics are well timed and relevant to the music.
