One of the turning points in Irish history, known as The Flight of the Earls, took place at Rathmullan, on the shores of the Swilly on 14th September 1604. After defeat at the Battle of Kinsale, the last of the great Irish Warlords, Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, along with other surviving Noblemen embarked form this spot and sailed into exile. This left Ireland open to domination and plantation by the English...

Phil Coulter; 'I've attempted to capture the mood of sadness that such a glorious chapter in our history had to end with this exile, and the momentum of the sea voyage, each breeze taking O'Neill further from his beloved Ireland. The scene is set by the unmistakable voice of my great pal Liam Neeson. What a star!'

Put to pictures of Irish countryside, Dublin city centre, Dublin's statues and Lough Swilly...

  • @MyUlster Great quote! I'm descended of Shane's "gallowglass" mercenaries, the Macleans, who settled around Dungannon after Ulster was lost and the plantation started. Tiocfaidh Ar La.

  • You have done justice to a beautiful song and have made me long for the shores I visited so long ago with the images you provide. The enchanting melody and the romance eluded to by your additions raise my already great respect for Mr. Coulter and his creation to a higher level.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video!

  • "My ancestors were kings of Ulster, and Ulster is mine, and shall be mine. O'Donnell shall never come into his country, nor Bagenal into Newry, nor Kildare into Dundrum or Lecale. They are now mine. With the sword I won them; with this sword I will keep them” Séan An Diomas Ó Néill,

  • I've been playing this song for many years and every time it has a great success no matter whether I play it solo, duo or...It's really beautiful, and sad,and there is so much to say!

10 years ago I had a chance to listen to it a few times, then I was given a book with Ph.Coulter's songs and I had to perform them a few days later for Irish society in Bahrain.

And since then his music has always been with me.

I finally found this song here! Thanks a lot!

    From Moscow with love)

    Elena.
