(You might have to change the name in Windows Media Player, on mine it still displays itself as "God Of War III~Rage of Sparta" which is how it was ripped from the CD - WMP also lists Chris Velasco as the composer, whereas Marino is written on the CD case.)

This is my extended version of the God of War III track 'Rage of Sparta', composed by Gerard Marino, one of the two main composers for the series' music. Like many other God of War tracks (such as the main theme, or The Vengeful Spartan, or The End Begins, among others) it has more than one version, but only one of which is actually on the soundtrack CD.

This can be pretty much divided into two parts - it opens with the rendition of Rage of Sparta which is heard on the main menu screen for God of War III, and also contains a version of the main recurring theme of the series. I shortened it down a bit because the first 'slower' part is just a quieter, less powerful version of the part I left in, and I didn't want it to drag on for too long, especially with redundancy.

After that, (at 1:44) it launches into the version of 'Rage of Sparta' heard during many of the boss fights, and this is the version stored on the CD (which isn't very long at all). Until I actually played them one right after the other, I didn't notice that the boss version is a tad faster - I kind of like it, as well as being more powerful to boot. It gives it a more climatic feel, if you will.

The two tracks I used were of different quality - part 1 was downloaded from YouTube, whereas part 2 came directly from the CD, resulting in slightly better quality and doesn't have the 'echo'. So, to make it sound like one track, I amplified part two by a couple decibels and slapped on a phaser to give it a 'wetter' sound - I am aware the quality isn't 100% perfect, and there are still slight differences, but I think that consistency is more important than a tiny drop in quality. And yes, I know that the point of switching is still pretty noticeable but I did my best - feel free to give me feedback.

Thanks for listening and enjoy the download!

  • I accidentally cut in front of this guy with a shaved head in line at the store. He said he was visiting from Greece and an orange "O" appeared over my head... I ran home faster than a cheetah and hid under my bed.
