This Australian ad for Canon laser printers just blows my mind! And mind you, this is 3000 Australian dollars in 1990. Who knows *how much* this would be in today's money!? Furthermore, I believe this is the ENTRY-LEVEL price being stated, so I can't even begin to fathom how much more it could possibly cost. Probably had to put a second mortgage on your house for top-of-the-line, I guess.
The upshot of the exorbitant price would be an exceptionally high degree of quality. I would imagine that, as long you've been constantly refilling the toner cartridge, it would still work today (yes, even after 20+ years of continual use, without so much as a breakdown) although I could be wrong.
Remember, of course, that dot matrix printing was still very much the norm then and that laser was a luxury few could afford, so...
