Mark E Smith is a bad singer, but that's hardly the point. His roughness, ugliness, terseness and obtuse character takes the perspective of quality art when in the right presentation. It's like Duchamp putting a urinal in an art gallery. Mark Smith is wonderful when supported by a great band, like a muddy rock on top of a clean white marble plinth.

Brownies, East Village. I was there - saw the whole thing. M.E.S. messed w/ drummer. Very entertaining. Funnier than mexican cock fight.

totally agree with "you got wood rolled".
Craig also had already left, according to steve, mark sacked everyone then said they had to ask for their jobs back! Craig refused. Whats with the power trips?

I think Mark is a brilliant artist and genius lyricist. That said, he's also an awful drunk. It's gotten worse over the years, too. From what I've gathered, he's an OK guy sober but very hostile when he's had too much to drink. He was drunk off his ass in this video.

Verity of acrimony with no trace of being phony: no laughs here, so free range.

The NY courts made him do an alcohol program in England and send the results back to NY before he was cleared.
