The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was the partially recognised government in exile of Korea, based in Shanghai, China and later in Chongqing, during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea. The national anthem, "Aegukga" (애국가), which means, "The Patriotic Song" was sung to the Scottish folk song "Auld Lang Syne" that western missionaries had taught.

Lyrics:
동해물과 백두산이 마르고 닳도록
하느님이 보우하사 우리나라 만세

무궁화 삼천리 화려강산
대한사람 대한으로 길이 보전하세

Donghae mulgwa Baekdusani mareugo daltorok
Haneunimi bouhasa urinara manse.

Mugunghwa samcheonlli hwaryeogangsan
Daehansaram daehaneuro giri bojeonhase.

Translation:
Until the day when the East Sea's waters and Mt. Baekdu are dry and worn away,
god protect and preserve our nation.

Three thousand Li of splendid rivers and mountains, filled with Roses of Sharon;
Great Korean People, stay true to the Great Korean way.
