I've been developing an animation workflow in which detailed textures are animated and applied to traditional hand drawn 2d animation. The effect, I hope is something like a living painting or illustration.
I'm developing this workflow as part of a larger spec documentary I'm putting together about the collaborative process between artists and scientists that goes into reconstructing and animating dinosaurs. The documentary will culminate in an animated scene depicting a dramatic, but scientifically plausible, moment in the life of a prehistoric animal, and it will animated in this "textured 2d" animation style.
It is my hope that this animation demonstrates that there are exciting new possibilities for traditional 2d animation to be explored when combined with digital technology in a hybrid workflow, and that 3d computer animation is not the only medium which can be used to create compelling depictions of extinct creatures.
WOW... I can never gather the patience to spend so much time on adding layers - it sure pays off for you brother.

I like the feathers you gave it. Too often modern dinosaur interpretations completely fail at doing the feathers well.
