most singers dont change the gender of the songs subject as it interferes with the original feel or theme, regardless of their own gender or sexual orientation. Cant the song just be the song without having to drag all that stuff into it? Each person is gonna take their own interpretation from it anyway. Its a love song, pure and simple, why the need to hijack it as a theme tune or claim ownership, put a label on it, lock it in a cage? Just leave it free for all to enjoy.
