  • Go easy on the Endeavours. Everyone always disses them. I know they're heavy and take forever to get up to speed but the seats are really comfy and it's a nice smooth ride ....

  • Looking unusually shiny too !! May they rest in peace. They're currently rusting away in the Broadmeadow yards !!

  • Many people in the Newcastle area do refer to these sets as 'Sputniks'; that's what THEY call them. Sydney people referred to the 1950s Tulloch single-deck electric cars as 'Sputniks'. Both are correct.

  • Um, their not Sputniks, they are (or were as from 1pm yesterday) known as the 620/720 (six-twenty, seven-twenty) class rail motors. At one time for a while, they did have a nickname of "Slugs", of which term I don't like.

The Sputniks was the official name of the later electric Sydney red rattlers single decks.

  • Ah, the Sputnik. Most reliable of all trains in the entire RailCorp fleet. Lets see if the HunterCar replaces them or the lemon Endeavours.

  • Well photographed. Captures the fascination of the Railcar sets.
