***GET FREE RAPID (20 MIN.) HIV TESTING @ APICHA AND GET A $20 MOVIE THEATER GIFT CARD!!***

Whether or not you've had sex or think you're at risk for HIV, everyone should get tested! Knowing your status means knowing yourself. It means better, more honest relationships; better health; better sex! A better life!!

This PSA was created by APICHA (The Asian & Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV/AIDS) to show the ease in which someone can receive an HIV test. The narrator (played by East Grace Lee) walks us through the process step-by-step, demystifying the rapid HIV test.

HIV is silently devastating the API community, especially its young gay men: API young men who have sex with men (aged 13-24) have experienced the largest proportionate increase [255.6% (EAPC = 30.8)] in HIV infections between 2001-2006 (from the MMWR Weekly Report: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5725a2.htm)

Please support our effort to reduce the epidemic already ravaging our community!

APICHA, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1989 in response to the AIDS epidemic in New York City. The mission of APICHA is to combat HIV/AIDS stigma and related discrimination, to prevent the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Asian & Pacific Islander communities, and to provide care and treatment for Asian & Pacific Islanders living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

The mission of the YMSM (Young Men who have Sex with Men) Project is to combat AIDS-related discrimination, and to support, empower, and enhance the quality of life of Asian & Pacific Islander YMSM in New York City, New Jersey, and Long Island. Through education, training, community outreach, coalition-building, and research, we promote and uphold the ideals of sexuality and sexual health and the acceptance of API YMSM. We offer further assistance to young queer and questioning youth through EquAsian, our social and support youth-led group.

Our PSA was created by the amazingly talented Kanokon Sookaram (http://www.youtube.com/user/Kanokon).

  • man i got hiv test from this methof infront of m guy took my blood through injection and i dont know he put it in a machine which centrifuged it n he used a drop of my blod for test the hiv shit man its lyk very bad experience god the time which u have 2 wait for the result is very dreadfull

  • @smshavaiz actually, we don't have to put blood through a centrifuge w/ this kind of testing. it's like a pregnancy test - put the blood in the tube, put the stick in the tube, 20 mins. later you can see whether or not there's a valid reaction. pretty simple. sorry that you went through a bad experience where you are.

  • is this 100% accurate than the ELISA test? u can get your result in a single droplet of blood? if that's the case that will be a great painless way of getting tested.

  • @terencewoelke it's over 99% effective, which is one of the best accuracy rates among STD tests. things to consider: the window period (the time it takes for your body to build up enough HIV antibodies to cause a reaction for this test) can take anywhere from 1-3 mos. and there's also a possibility for false positives, which is why, for any reaction, we do another kind of test to confirm.

  • @APICHAYMSM

I see. Thanks. Is this available around the world? or only in the US or other advanced countries?

  • @rickwilliam95 Flu does not mean that u r affected, none of those symptoms could prove that you have HIV. Go get tested. And remember, protect yourself when you have sex.

  • HELP!!!!!! im 15 years old, I live in Canada and i had sex on new years, igot the flu three weeks later, i dont want to get tested because my parents will kill me if they know i had sex. could i possibly gave HIV?? what should i do??

  • @chinesep1mp Thanks for the question! The kind of test that we use here requires 20 mins. for the test to develop thoroughly. It's OraQuick Advance, and has been approved by the FDA, which may have different approval standards than Sweden. And to know the test has worked there should be a line next to the C on the test stick. If there isn't one, or it's not at the C, there's something wrong with test kit.

  • hello guys, just wondered, does it have to be 20 min, because a clinic in Sweden uses 15 minutes as their reference, and as the box highest up has been coloured it means that the test has worked?

  • lol i see larry

  • i just got an hiv test today. I waited 6 YEARS because I was so scared of the results. I lived in fear for a long time. I couldn't take it anymore..the test came back negative and it feels great! I would advise everyone to get tested and stop wasting your life away living in fear like I did..... get tested!!! great video!!!
