Printed speaker/amp housing

I used my RepRap to print out a housing for an audio project I have been working on. The amp and control circuitry are encased in the base of one of the speaker boxes. It takes in an audio signal over a standard 1/8" jack. Controls are minimal and offer volume control and then a single knob to bias towards base or treble.

All holes were printed in place (speakers, audio jack, power jack, audio lines), and required a tiny bit of trimming for the components to slot into place.

The first speaker enclosure has some scorch marks as a result of my attempts to fix the warped housing (it warped as it cooled from printing). I tried to melt it with a lighter so I could force it back into shape... didn't go so well. I altered the design for the next enclosure to include a support brace that would hold the lip in place; the results were much better.

For those who are wondering, the audio quality is surprisingly crisp and clear. I wasn't expecting much from it, given that I just whipped up the enclosure using Inventor. To my surprise, the system puts out quite remarkable sound, and this video doesn't do it justice. Top notch audio quality? No, but way better than anything I have heard from store bought systems of comparable size.

The drivers were salvaged from an old quadraphonic headphone set made decades ago.
