Sorry if the title is a little confusing--I had Haruhi English lyrics, and I wanted some way to get it out. I believe you click on the tab at the bottom right to enable subtitles, but in case you can't find them (or would rather use the lyrics yourself) here they are.

Annotated with syllables, as always.

[8+12]If we only, could could map out all | this world's great riddles, its mysteries to be solved
[13]We'd fin'ly be free to go anywhere we want

[8+12]We spend our life, waiting for this | exitement to come, and even hopes of our own
[13]But noone is there turning hope to reality

[8]Until time itself stops for us-- Booooon!

[12]With a warp, and a loop, this feeling comes inside
[20]Throwing evrything in, is it really a sin, to watch this wind-- excite us all?

[9]On a bright clear and sun-shiny day
[9]A joy greater than magic will rain
[10+7]Pouring down the light, with no end in sight | It is not impossible!
[9+9]When I see you again tomorrow | We'll hum and laugh as far as we go!
[4+5]Congregating all | the joy in this world
[8]It's so easy there's no effort at all
[6+6]If we're running for them | no doubt we will catch them
[12]Because we love a dream--a dream--you love it too?

[8+12]Anything can be accomplished | in such a future where nothing's certainly true
[13]Even so I know that I can say one thing for sure

[8+12]Hanging higher, than the grey cloud, a beautiful sky is glittering above us
[13]I look tword the stars and know I can draw hope from them

[8]Because we can ride along time-- Byuuuuun!

[12]At this age, where we love our cheap and cool events
[16+4]I feel lonely and cry or I just feel too shy, but please can I | share this with you?

[9]If you will take my hand within yours,
[8]we'll be unstoppable as we go!
[10+7]Take a look inside these big shining eyes | they're impossible to slow
[9+9]If you just look way up to the top | and all your tears are suddenly gone
[5]Yell "I want to change!"
[5+12]Just shout from your heart | your voice can be heard and even understood too!
[6+10]You just move on forward | just leave all the rest behind-- is your heart
[8]beating in-- and out-- a little more?

  • Sorry for double comment, but... I also like the sparing rhyme scheme. I was about to suggest "tears are suddenly gone" be "tears will suddenly STOP," to match the previous line's "top," but then I noticed that those lines DON'T rhyme in the original Japanese, while ones like the brilliant "feel lonely and cry" do. I see. You think of everything, man. You're near impossible to critique.

Ah, I'm so looking forward to the "Yuki" lyrics!

  • Japanese rhyme schemes are interesting. From what I've observed of Japanese lyrics and language, the sparing rhyme scheme makes sense. After all, all Japanese syllables end with one of five sounds: a, i, u, e,or o. Basically, I think it's so easy to rhyme in Japanese, that it would be redundant to make things rhyme.

Maybe it's like American free verse. It's similar because if you look in both this lyrical style and in free verse, they both employ specific rythmic techniques and internal rhyme.
