Quarry had good power for his size. He KO Shavers and Mac Foster two big heavys that were supposed to beat him up. He also toyed with an almost KOd big Ron Lyle.
Joe Frazier just had an unbelievable chin.

Yes he did, with the exception of George Foreman. Only man I ever saw that overpowered Frazier

@MrRoyalFatness Oh yes. I had forgotten that fight. Any other?
-
Haha, when Jerry hits Joe in the nuts, the first punch Joe throws when they engage is an obvious low blow. Way to psyche a fighter.

Oscar Bonavena was one. He dropped Frazier twice in their fight, but Joe came back and smashed him to bits. It was one of his early fights.

Who the hell is the old punk giving the finger behind Charlie Quarry when she's clapping?
-
Quarry definitely should have had the higher rating

i love this commentator, and boxing was so damn exciting back then, i wish i could live these years and see some of these great fights live

Besides the Foreman slaughter, does anybody know who else dropped Frazier in a fight during his career?
-
Frazier's left hook is frkn scary.

How many fights did louis referee?
-
@squarey1 Maybe because Frazier had already beaten Quarry once before.
Excellent. Thank you. Was not Ali's defence against Norton in '76 a mandatory? I remember Norton introduced as the no.1 contender when he called the Foreman-Lyle fight alongside Howard Cosell.

Nope. His only other mandatory was rematch with Foreman and he ducked him throughout '76.

Joe Louis made a pig's ear of refereeing this fight. Also, why was Frazier rated higher (no.2) than Quarry (no.3)? Jerry had beaten Lyle & Shavers. Frazier had just lost to Ali.

honestly, I'm not sure.

After doing a little research I see that Frazier was Ali's mandatory and the only mandatory he actually defended his title against.
