While many other crossover SUVs are getting sleeker, more urban exteriors, the Ford Escape Hybrid has received a rugged redesign. The heightened beltline and sculpted hood remind us that the Escape Hybrid may offer great fuel economy, but first and foremost it is an SUV.

Ford's design team takes its environmentally friendly vision even further by using 100-percent recycled seat materials, and Ford purports that, through a carbon off-set program, it has countered any greenhouse gases created by its production. Add to this SUV-like versatility, cargo room and four-wheel drive, and the Ford Escape Hybrid seems a natural choice for those who like to rough it without roughing-up the planet.

  • Weird that in the relatively short time since this video was made, the entire Mercury line is no longer with us...what a fucking bummer.

  • @tnguyen318 that it is. But the best part is the 288 lb-ft of torque. That thing will get off the line in a hurry when you want it to.

  • 215 Horsepower 5.0 Liter V-8 is awesome.

  • @tnguyen318 agreed but it actually makes 215 hp as of 1998 and I believe 205 hp from 1995-1997.

  • The 1998 Mercury Mountaineer is a good car. 200 Horsepower 5.0 Liter V-8.

  • @tnguyen318 I'll stick with my 1998 Mercury Mountaineer with AWD and a V8 that gets 11 mpg thank you very much.

  • The Ford Escape Hybrid Achieves Best Fuel Economy in its class. 425+ miles on a single tank 30+ miles per gallon. Technologically Advanced electronic instrument cluster and Hybrid Drive System. All for just $29,795.

  • @heartlessvietboy did you really just say V-4?

  • whats the going green premium thingy about ?? u pay or u get discounted ??

  • Ford did a good job on the Escape. My brother drove a regular V-4 Escape and it felt like a V-6. Great peddle to engine response. Feel of the vehicle is awesome. I recommend this car to those who are looking for a real SUV.
