Mike Blakey has been playing the guitar since age 8, and he's never looked back. Since then, he's released 16 western novels and 10 musical albums and averages about three performances a week. Then there's the work on the ranch that has to get done. In 2005, Blakely's band won Vocal Group of the Year at the Texas Music Awards and was later nominated for album of the year. As a songwriter, he won the first-ever Spur Award for songwriting.

In 2006, Blakely was selected to co-write a western novel with one of the most recognizable entertainment icons in history, Willie Nelson. The resulting novel, A Tale Out Of Luck, is designed for Willie himself to play the lead role in the movie version of the story.
