OK, let's watch it in 20 years
-
i think the more people that hear this will hopefully be more optimistic about the future!
-
@Ason19 Even though his speeches are a very similar idea ... they improve exponentially. Every year the double in quality ... well, until the singularity is reached upon his death in 10 years. I have graphs

@Nouseeker, I reckon we'll know hard AI has been cracked when spam disappears.
-
actually, all of those technologies exist, as protoypes in research labs; now, them becoming mainstream or being applied as commercial products is another story, as other factors (economy, public demand, etc) come into play; when he says the singularity will happen in 2045, he means in some cutting edge lab hard AI will be developed; that doesnt mean your refrigerator will be self aware anytime soon after

If he actually lives for 1000 years, he will have to update his talk one day or another.
-
Ray has been saying the same thing for a decade now, yet virtually nothing significant that he proposed has actually happened (smart roads, fat insulin receptor inhibitors, computers embedded in jewellery, audio-visual virtual reality, etc).
-
and even so most people keep acting in the same way as ever. Maybe repeting again and again those people wil find out that they will be part of the future and, therefore, change the way Earth has been treated.

Kurzweil is an interesting guy but if u've heard him once u heard him a million times
he's been doing this boilerplate speech for years
It's always interesting listening to Ray.
