Here's the first chapter of Andros' quest to Kill Darkonda and save his sister, "A Fallen Ranger", in which Andros duels to the death with Minako, a former purple space ranger of the Japanese "Sentai" gang.

Like the movie I'm parodying, these chapters do not follow a linear progression, meaning that the events portrayed in Chapter 1 do not actually occur first; chronologically, the events of Chapter 2 will take place before Chapter 1.

NOTES: Although relatively short, the fight sequence between Andros the Red Ranger and Minako the Purple Ranger is one of the most frenzied and required the most editing out of all the stock footage videos I've created so far.

Events such as forced demorphing happen at an accelerated rate, meaning you way have to rewatch the sequences to catch split-second details you might have missed. This was because I wanted the duel to emphasize the fact that both Ranger's were trying desperately to kill on another, and to keep the old samurai movie style feel of the choreography.

Sequences involving the unmorphed Minako are taken of the character Segure. The golden light filtering and flares are made to make the different footage somewhat match, as well of adding the other side effect of making the sparks that fly almost look and act like fountains of blood.

The footage spontaneously turns to black and white because since the footage I'm using cannot have both a Red ranger and a Purple ranger on screen at the time, colors had to be eliminated.

The dialog is in subtitled Japanese because, since Minako is Japanese, the two of them communicate in the same language. I tried to keep Andros' english voice and Japanese voice as similar as possible. He narrates in Japanese not only for consistency, but because there didn't exist proper English sound bites.

Obviously if you've taken a Japanese class or two like myself, you'll realize that the Japanese words being spoken actually have nothing to do with the subtitles. Since this video series caters towards an English audience however, I don't think it really matters.

My usage of the term "Sentai" is a homage only, not meant to bash the Super Sentai series which I actually rather enjoy.

  • Interesting way making a homage towards the original material.

  • I'm not sure how well it turned out, but I try. ;)

  • very nice, I look forword to the rest, and I hope you will make a chart in terms of when they happend (one that isn't chronologically)

  • Trust me, the non-linear progression is a story-telling technique. I assure you, when I am done it will all make perfect sense.
