Just wanted to post one more before this crazy week gets underway! :) I'll try to post during the week, too, but the more comments i get, the more likely i am to post!

"Like music on the waters is they sweet voice to me."
--Lord Byron

****************

Nick's POV:

As soon as the door opened, I felt my heart skip a beat. Standing in front of me was Emily, looking more beautiful than I'd ever seen her.

"Emily, you look-" I stuttered.

"Close your mouth and wipe your drool, rockstar," Brooklyn called out as she passed us on her way to the kitchen. She was carrying a laptop.

"Excuse her," Emily blushed furiously. "She's an idiot."

"Well, you look beautiful," I finally managed, then held out my arm. "Shall we?"

"Have her home by midnight!" I heard Taylor's voice coming from inside.

I looked down at Emily, confused. "When did Taylor get here?"

"She's on video chat," she muttered, shutting the door behind her. "They are both being ridiculous."

I laughed, then changed my voice to a very cheesy British accent. "Well, ma'am, my name is Nicholas, and I'd like to take you out for dinner, if you'd allow me the pleasure."

"Ah, yes. And I am Emily Grace. I dont believe you have given me your last name, kind sir," she replied, matching my phony accent perfectly as I led her to the waiting Lexus. It had taken a whole lot of pleading to get Joe to let me borrow it for the night.

"I feel that last names are completely overrated," I joked.

I helped Emily into the passenger seat, then walked around to the drivers seat, feeling slightly excited for the evening. I slid into the car and turned the key in the engine.

"I decided to be the man tonight and drive," I said teasingly, pulling out of the driveway.

"Where is the car from?" she questioned.

"It's Joe's rental. I felt bad making you drive all the time. I think I'm going to rent a 'Stang for myself."

Emily laughed out loud. "A 'Stang? No one calls them that anymore."

"I do," I insisted, feigning hurt. "Don't make fun."

"Who, me?" she grinned, then wrinkled her cute little nose. "Never."

Emily's POV:

"So what was it like growing up in Pennsylvania?" Nick asked me as we strolled down the deserted beach a couple miles from the restaurant we'd just left a while ago.

The dinner had been amazing, and Nick had been a complete gentleman the entire time. When we'd finished eating, we weren't ready to go home quite yet, so I'd suggested the beach, my favorite place in the world.

"It was amazing," I grinned, remembering. "We had a huge farm. I actually lived between Taylor and Brooklyn's farms. Our mothers were all best friends, so I guess we all followed suit. We used to have tons of parties, picnics, bbqs and playdates, usually at my house. My mother was definitely an entertainer."

"Thats so cool," he said, smiling sweetly.

"It was. And I especially loved it when it rained."

"Why?"

I slowed my pace, feeling a wave of sadness wash over me. I think I had shared to much. Nick slowed as well and moved closer, taking my hand. When I looked up, his eyes were cautious, questioning. In a split decision, I responded by moving closer to him shyly, so that our arms were brushing. I was momentarily glad it was dark so Nick couldn't see me blushing.

"I liked the rain because my momma would take me out on the back porch sometimes with a glass of iced tea, and she'd sit with her arm around me, completely quiet. When I was eight, I started taking my camera out so that I could take photos while she painted the most beautiful pictures," I replied quietly after a few silent minutes.

"Did she like the rain, too?" he asked me.

"She loved it. She always told me that the rain was how the people we love tell us from heaven," I whispered, feeling a tear run down my cheek. "When it rains, I feel like she's here, reminding me that she loves me."

*************

Nick's POV

'Wow,' I thought, not really believing she'd trusted me enough to confide. Suddenly, I felt a couple drops on my arm. At first, I thought it was Em's tears, but then I felt it on my other arm, then my face. Emily looked up at the sky, the most beautiful smile I'd ever seen blooming across her tear-stained face.

Then, the heavens opened and the rain came pouring down.
