I never knew Ted Neeley was a Christian so I was really happy to hear he is. He has had an incredible mininstry for Jesus playing this part. I'm sure he has touched so many people's lives and helped turn them to Christ. God bless you Ted...

True. But the law of unintended consequences took over and the spiritual aspect actually helped to convert many of the faithless. Apparently many non-believers discovered a soul within they were sure they didn't possess.

I'm sure every time the Pope and the catholic church altered canon to stay relative in changing times people like you thought they were being anti-this or anti-that. Back in the 70s when JCS first played to audiences many Christians hated it. Guess what: Who do you think gave birth to Christian Rock? Yep! Rice/Webber/Neeley/etc. with this Religious Rock Opera. They broke convention and the church eventually co-opted their idea in an effort to stay relative. If you can't beat 'em, join em.

It's interesting to hear from a Christian within the production, I've always seen Jesus Christ Superstar as pretty anti-Bible

It's just trying to be more relatable. We can all relate with stress and fear and struggle, not really from raising from the dead. If it has a positive effect on people, that's all that matters. When I unknowingly cut myself off from Jesus, Jesus Christ Super Star reminded me of what he really sacrificed. And it has some great music to keep reminding me.

the irony is this is a secular perspective of Jesus that removes any miraculous works and portrays him as fully human, e.g. no resurrection.
