My suggestions for improvements.

To address some criticisms for other ideas:

1. Water drying is highly unlikely as a bill tends to tear easier when wet, so the tugging gesture he used to reveal it was a real dollar bill would have caused it to tear (also, drying rates are too slow for that to be the source of a trick.)

2. Chemical treatment in such a way that the bill can crumple up like that requires a couple of chemicals that are only done for really expensive magic tricks and are found in university chemistry labs. Either way, CJ wouldn't have had access to those.
