Pharmaceutical drugs alter/manipulate neurochemicals (brain chemicals), such as serotonin, dopamine, GABA, norepinephrine, glutamate, etc. The thing is, ALL neurochemicals are synthesized from food or food supplements. That is the reason Orthomolecular Medicine works. People have allergic reaction to drugs, just like people have allergic reaction to some foods. Because food is actually a drug when it's digested and broken into molecules in our bodies.

what kind of food can be eaten for depression, anxiety and HDD?

Because fructose does not increase blood glucose and does not require insulin, individuals with diabetes can often tolerate it better than other sugars. In fact, studies show that small amounts of oral fructose may actually improve glycemic control in people with diabetes.

Even though commonly consumed sugars provide basically the same number of calories, they are metabolized and used by the body in different ways. For instance, glucose from dietary sources is digested, absorbed, transported to the liver, and released into the general blood stream. Many tissues take up glucose from the blood to use for energy; this process requires insulin. Fructose is predominantly metabolized in the liver, but unlike glucose it does not require insulin to be used by the body.

Sucrose is a disaccharide that contains equal parts of glucose and fructose. Known as table or white sugar, sucrose is found naturally in sugar cane and sugar beets.

The food supply contains a variety of sugars called monosaccharides (single sugar units like fructose and glucose) and disaccharides (two monosaccharides linked together). Glucose is the main source of energy for the body because most complex sugars and carbohydrates break down into glucose during digestion. Starches contain many single sugar units linked together. The various sugars perform different functions in the body, but they all can provide energy.

Fructose is a monosaccharide, or single sugar, that has the same chemical formula as glucose but a different molecular structure. Sometimes called fruit sugar, fructose is found in fruit, some vegetables, honey, and other plants. Fructose and other sugars are carbohydrates, an important source of energy for the body.

Actually they usually modulate receptors and neuroactivity that utilize those neurotransmitters, given we don't know exactly how. The "chemical imbalance" is a simplification. If you're schizophrenic, antipsychotics can be a godsend. However, diet, exercise, etc shouldn't be excluded. Sometimes, a shotgun approach involving medication, diet and other things that might help is the best thing.

(and don't get me started on psychiatry...)
Having worked 4 years in mental health I assure anyone that this is very accurate information. In fact, it is the reason I left the field. In some extreme cases MAYBE psychotropic drugs could be needed just to stabilize a person. But I have found diet, exercise and therapy to be quite effective; so effective, that I was once fired for helping people get well.

Thanks for your great comment - I had the same problem when I was helping people on the medical side get well. They don't like anyone interfering with their source of income.
