I think Nimoy adds more credibility to the Trek franchise than Shatner. The films he directed were great. Shatner screwed up 5 and had a sloppy death in Generations. I believe that's why Nimoy is in the new film and Shatner isn't. I love Shatner, but he's more ego than actual talent.

Maybe The Best of Both Worlds became #1 after this.
As an interesting note, there were many fans who were disappointed because the previews promote Spock but he didsn't appear until the end of Part 1.

Well, when the episode (Unification I) first ran, it got the highest amount of viewers in TNG's history because so many fans heard Spock was making an appearance.
