Displaced Zimbabweans await new homes - 30 March 2008

Despite their country's severe economic problems, many voters in Zimbabawe chose not to go to the polls on Saturday.

Among them were thousands of people displaced during President Robert Mugabe's so-called "clean-up" operation in 2005. The project moved an estimated 300,000 people from slums.

But as Haru Mutasa reports, many are still waiting for their promised new home.

Contrast it with the squalor and misery that predominates in Zimbabwe now. AIDS, now cholera, famine, violence. No one has jobs. They are pressed against the barbed wire at the South African border. If things are so wonderful under Mugabe, why won't he let reporters in? because he doesn't want the world to see his crimes.

Just look what the Zanu-Pf's did to the Hunyani. This was a CIVILIAN flight that they shot down, immediately killing most of the passengers. To compound their evil, they then massacred the survivors, who pleaded for their lives. They gunned them down as they ran. Three survived by playing dead. Five were out trying to find water and witnessed the murder of the rest. There are your "war veterans" for you. Those are your Zanu "patriots." And they shot down another plane as well. Who is evil now?

Evil is as evil does, BAP, and you should look at the atrocities committed by Mugabe. Election fraud, intimidation, torture, genocide. Sanctions to force governments to change, and the people do become casualties as well.We have seen the election results in Zimbabwe, and the people want Mugabe out. He refuses to go and reneged on the powersharing deal with MDC. It was such a beautiful country, it lies in tatters and tears now. You spout Zanu-PF rhetoric like a well-trained communist mouthpiece.

Mugabe was a terrorist before he came to power and continues to wage terror against his own people now. He planned the slaughter of 30,000 Ndebele in advance of the actual killing done by Shona ethnic troops and their North Korean (what does THAT tell you) trainers. Opponents of the ZANU-PF---by the way what happened to Nkomo and the Ndebele faction---were beaten and tortured and killed. Any one can cruise the You Tube for pictures or go to Sokwanele's website. Why have millions of Zimbos fled?

Zimbabwe had a fantastic economy in the 1970s when it fed most of Africa. Just that one little country. And how did it do so? Through the tremendous wealth it had in the form of the white agricultural class. White farmers fed the whole continent. But what happened to these resources? They fled the evils of the Mugabe regime. From 270,000 whites there are now less than 5,000. This is due to black racism and communist ideology. Whites fled in terror, and Zim lost in technology and education.

Yes, we are aware of the power of sanctions, yet why are they imposed? If the US and UK really wanted to use thhe resources of Zimbabwe, they would certainly have left the old Ian Smith regime in place, and removed the sanctions they had imposed on Rhodesia. That is why Rhodesia is no more, because it was killed by the US and UK sanctions. Rhodesia struggled bravely for some time with help from Israel, South Africa, and Mozambique/Portugal/Angola. Then it met the fate that Zimbabwe will meet.
