No Germany companies were by far the largest facilitator of Iraq's chemical weapons program with French companies coming in second. The role of US companies was insignificant. The few technical equipment that was bought from private US companies had legitimate use in Iraq's chemical industry. On the other hand the type,breadth and scope of the contracts given to German firms would have made it rather obvious to them what the end purpose of these contracts were.
