I feel 3DS Max has better modeling tool, the modifiers in 3DS Max are cool. Plus texture mapping is easier as well. Maya has a screwed up way of adding textures.

Maya has great rigging tools but other than that, and the paint tool I never seen a point in using it. Max it more for making video game like X-box, PS , and wii games.
