Meccano Supermodel 19, the Steam Shovel, built with genuine 1929 parts (the year the model plan was published). All parts have been restored, except for the engine, digger bucket, and pulley block, which are in original paint.

  • This is very good, particularly the slo mo action of the machine. Well done and thankyou.

  • @richardyingren, thanks for your nice comments! And to everyone else below too... I must get around to doing some more of these...

  • Built one of these myself from 1970s meccano parts with the 1970s Mamod Meccano engine! Great video and for those after parts- Frizzinghall Models in Bradford sell most meccano parts...

  • Yes, but a lot of the parts can be reproductions. Your first port of call should be your local Meccano club, where you'll always find someone willing to supply Meccano parts and usually cheaper than any dealers. Thanks for the comments!

  • Where could find one of these models??

  • Err, the point rather is that you make it yourself! Although one pretty much like this, with original engine, was sold at a toy auction in the UK last month, and was on ebay. They're rare as they don't fetch as much made-up as the parts would cost individually. Of course, with a made-up one you have no idea whether any of the parts are genuine. Where are you? Find your local Meccano club and ask a member (not a dealer) where to buy the parts locally to build one yourself!

  • can you evon find this aney where

  • that is spectacular!!!!!

  • Excellent video, thanks for posting.

It clearly shows basically how a steam shovel works.

It also makes me think of the model engines the victorian engineers made.

  • I'm amazed at watching this video.

  • What a great video! Really recorded and edited well compared to a lot of stuff here on YouTube!

I was here showing my 3 year old (no wait he'll be 4 in 6 more days!) what a steam shovel was. When he saw this he said I have to make him one!

How many steam engines does this shovel have on it?

I like that you showed all it's features but I really liked you discussing it with (your son?), he is rather calm compared to my 'wild child' but he has that great little British accent. :^)

    More to ....

  • yea the old stuff has much more quality and id more fun
