Switched on London is a lighting festival in the capital that aims to highlight the importance of sustainable lighting design in the night-time urban environment. A number of sites were lit during a 2week period in February 2007 & 2008 in an energy efficient way to show the power of light in the city.
Lighting Design House designed a scheme that represented the history of the tower in light - using even more efficient lighting on both the white tower and traitors gate. The start of the story or sequence will see the Traitors gate washed in blood red with the White Tower behind illuminated in a strong cold white to give it an eerie ghostly appearance, hinting at the Towers more sinister past. This will then gently change to a warm, welcoming "friendly" white on the main Tower with a subtle colour change though a range of hues over the traitors gate to depict the changing uses and faces of the tower over the years.
