On November 15th, 2007, Cyclone Sidr smashed into the Bangladesh Coast. Its devastating tidal wave left a path of destruction, and killed more than 3,500 people - more than double the death toll of Hurricane Katrina. 3 million homes were completely destroyed, and 8 million homes were damaged.

in January 2008, charity: water founder Scott Harrison traveled to the disaster area to help. Soon after, charity: water released $150,000 to funding through local partner Concern Bangladesh to build 100 wells and provide an additional 200 communities with biosand filters.
