  • @Canadiantrue I feel he was speaking more that the falling to temptation, or failing to resist that temptation is our fault rather than coming from us. When we sin we want to blame whatever we can, however the person who made the decision was still me rather than "devil made me do it." Perhaps we could see this as saying that we are always given the freedom to choose what's right in God's eyes but sometimes we don't and this action is our fault.

  • Jesus was tempted in ALL things, so temptation is not from within (as he said at first)... it is from the enemy (as he said later). When we 'own' our temptation and make it equivalent to 'our desires', there is no hope. Because how can you change your own heart?  "The heart is deceitful above all things". We will only live in guilt and set ourselves up for more failure. Freedom comes when we see temptation as the enemy's tool, and choose to rather OWN our TRUE Identity as children of God.
